Euphoria Star Refused To Audition For Superman Legacy: “That’s Too Dark For Me”

Australian actor Jacob Elordi was one of the names floating around in the reports of who might be the next Superman before David Corenswet landed the role for James Gunn’s Superman Legacy. But Elordi never auditioned, because he didn’t want to be involved with something that was so “dark.”

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” Elordi told GQ. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

Asked generally if he would want to be in a superhero movie someday, Elordi said, “Not particularly, no.” He added that his agent advised him against saying this, because of how it could potentially impact his career down the road should he ever change his mind.

“Obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies,” he said.

Other actors who were said to be in the running for Superman included Pierson Fode, Andrew Richardson, and Nicholas Hoult (who was also reportedly being eyed for Lex Luthor, too).

Elordi’s latest role was Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, which is in theaters now. Elordi broke out with his starring roles in The Kissing Both movie series and the HBO show Euphoria.

As for Superman Legacy, writer-director James Gunn recently confirmed that the movie remains on schedule to release on July 11, 2025. Gunn confirmed this just after SAG-AFTRA ended its labor strike. Some thought the film might be delayed, but Gunn said this is not the case.

In addition to Corenswet as Superman, the film stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Keep checking back for more on Superman Legacy in the time ahead.
